The Sense of Safety Project

The Sense of Safety Project and Foundation Course for Practitioners was developed by Dr Johanna Lynch alongside other researchers and collaborators, to embed the concept of Sense of Safety as a whole person, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and healing-oriented approach to health, learning, and public policy.

Clinician, Researcher and Advocate

As an Australian GP (family doctor) with over 25 years of experience, Johanna has spent the last 15 years developing compassionate, whole-person approaches for those who have survived childhood trauma and neglect. Her clinical work inspired research on the links between life experiences and health. She advocates for primary care that values generalist, whole-person care. Johanna’s PhD was widely recognised as paradigm-changing and has since become an academic book read around the world.

Author, Integrator, Dreamer

Johanna views integrating diverse forms of knowledge as an everyday skill of the generalist. Her work explores connections between mind and body, spirit and community, and reflects her long-standing commitment to whole-person care. These themes are central to her internationally acclaimed PhD on whole-personal approaches to distress in primary care.
